Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1
- Lobelia blue over white
- 3-speed overdrive
- Built in June 1954
- Fully restored 8 years ago with photographic record
The Austin-Healey 100/4 must surely be one of the best looking roadsters of the fifties! Together with the XK 120, it is a car that looks perfect from every angle and is evocative for an era when designers had to worry about one thing only: beauty! In later years, Big Healeys became less sports car and more grand tourer. Lacking winding windows and a convertible hood, the 100/4 has no luxury pretensions. It aspires to being a drivers car, giving the pilot a big grin on his face!
Our Healey 100 was built on the 29th of June 1954 and exported immediately to the US where it was awaited by an eager buyer! After spending many decades on the other side of the ocean, the Healey was imported and nut and bolt restored in Holland. The Dutch owners decided to change the original colour scheme from black with a red interior to the lovely combination of Lobelia blue over white with a cream interior, a great tribute to the very rare 100S of which only 50 were ever made and of which the majority used white over Lobelia. And does this suit the stunning lines well!
As the restoration was only finished 8 years ago, the bodywork is in lovely, straight condition with beautiful paintwork. New chromework was used and the stunning waterfall grill is excellent! Body coloured wire wheels give a very nice touch to the overall appearance of this Healey. Often a weak point on Big Healeys, the chassis on this car is in very good shape!
For the interior, cream leather and carpeting was chosen. Again, all in excellent condition and combining nicely with the exterior of the car. We think it was a good choice to retain the original steering wheel as it looks so much better on these cars than more modern replacements. Weather equipment, in the form of a cream hood and tonneau are as new, as are the side screens.
Mechanically, this Healey 100 lives up to the expectations with a lovely torquey and powerfull engine and good shifting 3-speed gearbox with perfectly operating overdrive. Oil pressure is excellent and she sounds great too! The suspension and braking department have not been forgotten either and makes driving this Healey a real pleasure!
A Healey 100 is not a car for the shy and this example, with its formidable colour combination, is no exception. It looks glamourous and attracts many glances from onlookers. But instead of being greeted with envy, a lot of admiring smiles is what you will see when you become the new, very lucky owner of this car!
