In fact, this is not a "simple" SLC, but a 450 5.0 that stood at the top of the range.
Presented in 1977, this version was created for homologation in competitions
The 450 SLC 5.0 was characterized by two small front and rear spoilers in black plastic and aluminum bonnets and bumper reinforcements, while the engine guaranteed the beauty of no less than 240 hp
This special version was built in about 1,600 units
The 450 SLC 5.0 rediscovered a rally racing car with an innate predisposition for the toughest and most demanding races, which thanks to its sturdiness and respectable performance, allowed the car to reap important results.
The famous 1978 “Vuelta a la America del Sud” was memorable for the enthusiasts, where Mercedes, which fielded four 450 SLC 5.0 coupés and two official 280 E sedans, conquered the first four places, annihilating the opposing teams with important gaps.
In the same year, again with a 450 SLC 5.0, the great Hannu Mikkola finished second at the "East African Safari" after holding the lead for a long time
